10th EFDN Conference Panel Discussion on Sustainability Development Goals
On March 22nd, representatives of UNDP’s Nordic Representation Office (NRO), FC Barcelona Foundation, the UNDP and SAP SE will participate in a panel discussion on the topic of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through sport.
Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
Set by the United Nations (UN), these 17 SDGs build on the successes of the Millennium Development Goals, while including new areas such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among other priorities. The goals are interconnected – often the key to success for one will involve tackling issues more commonly associated with another.
The SDGs work in the spirit of partnership and pragmatism to make the right choices now to improve life, in a sustainable way, for future generations. They provide clear guidelines and targets for all countries to adopt in accordance with their own priorities and the environmental challenges of the world at large. The SDGs are an inclusive agenda.
Further information on the SDGs can be found here and will be discussed in the panel.
Using sport to achieve the SDGs
Alongside the panel on ”Tackling Racism in Football”, this will be another great opportunity for attendees to engage in learning and sharing knowledge with each other.
This dynamic panel will showcase a discussion between experts from diverse organisations and backgrounds on the topic of “Achieving the SDGs through sport”. Joining the panel are representatives of UNDP, FC Barcelona Foundation and SAP SE. Panelists will critically explore how sport came to be involved and included in the SDG’s and analyse the contribution that sport can make to the goals, and whether sport can live up to these expectations. A focus of the discussion will be the extent to which football can be regarded as a high-impact tool in humanitarian, development and peace-building efforts.
The panel aims to stimulate discussion between various organisations and stakeholders in this field who will contribute their valuable perspectives and shed light on the role that sport can have in contributing to a more peaceful and sustainable future for all.
