Benjamin Kirchler – Speaker at the 18th EFDN Conference
Benjamin Kirchler, researcher at Energy Institute at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, is a confirmed speaker at our 18th EFDN #Morethanfootball Conference in Budapest from the 14th until the 16th of November 2022.
Benjamin works as a research associate at the Energy Institute, an independent research institution in the field of energy economics and he is involved in several european research projects. His research focus is in the area of behavioral economics, on which he is also writing his PhD thesis.
Benjamin’s presentation will discuss Greenfoot an EFDN related project. Greenfoot aims to support the energy transition within football by providing novel crowdfunding schemes that allow fans and other interested people to engage with clubs and football associations and help them to become more energy efficient. The presentation describes the work conducted in the Horizon 2020 project, with a focus on the survey that collects detailed information about the motivation, willigness to participate in such campaigns and elicits the amount that people would be willing to contribute. The results identify the ideal target group, quantify the effect of emotional attachment, in our case football fans, on their willigness to participate and contribute. The results point to a shift in the desing of energy communities and shows that rather then creating new communities, existing communities should be transformed into energy communites. The presentation will also highlight what measures could be implemented in various football buildings, e.g. stadiums of different size, and training facilities.
