FIFPro confirmed as panellist at the 10th EFDN Conference
Tony Higgins, the Chairman of FIFPro Supervisory Board, will be participating in the “Tackling Racism in football” panel discussion at the 10th EFDN Conference.
Tony Higgins was a professional footballer in Scotland, playing for 16 years with many clubs, but mainly for Hibernian FC. Following the playing career and academic studies he became secretary of the Professional Footballers’ Association in Scotland, a position he held for around 20 years. Tony Higgins began working for FIFPro in 2005 and one of his many responsibilities has been CSR work in relation to players.
Tony has had much experience dealing with racism in football. He set up the Show Racism the Red Card campaign in Scotland in 1996 during his time as secretary of the PFA. It was in response to the rising tide of racism that was occurring in Scottish football. Another panellist of the ”Tackling Racism in Football” panel – Paul Elliot – was a great supporter of the campaign. Here is what Tony has to say about Paul:
One of the great advocate’s of establishing the campaign was my fellow panelist Paul Elliot whom was one of the first black players in Scottish football to stand up against racism. It is former players like Paul whom have made the situation in the UK many times better than it was 20 years ago.
FIFPro
FIFPro is the worldwide representative organisation for all professional footballers; more than 60,000 players in total, male and female. The World Players’ Union currently has 63 national players’ associations as their members.
The mission ‘FIFPro supports players’ and our mission statement ‘FIFPro is the exclusive collective voice of the world’s professional footballers’ are key principles. These are the two guiding foundations that underpin FIFPro’s activities.
EFDN is looking forward to welcoming him to the 10th EFDN Conference in Paris this March.
