At the 10th EFDN Conference, Gary Bye, representative of the Premier League Safeguarding Team will address the topic: Football and sport is for everyone – Protecting Children is everyone’s responsibility! We are looking forward to welcoming him in Paris.
Gary is part of the Premier League Safeguarding Team and uses a blend of law enforcement experience gained from 25 years’ service as a detective, combined with a football and sports coaching background to support Clubs in ensuring they are compliant with UK legislation and League rules. Having been involved in local child protection investigations, he later spent a significant part of his career involved in national and international investigations to combat criminals seeking to harm children using The Internet and technology. This work also involved identifying on-line risks and raising awareness through education to senior members of foreign judiciary, law enforcement partners and other safeguarding professionals. More recently he has delivered bespoke Internet Safety presentations to Academy players, coaches and parents in Premier League Clubs. As a coach he has worked with children and young people from diverse backgrounds in football both here and abroad.

This session will describe how Premier League Clubs embed a culture of Safeguarding and how it differs to Child Protection built on a legislative foundation. Clubs seek to create inclusive and safe environments throughout their engagement with all children on a variety of community projects and programmes by identifying the needs of children as individuals, managing risk, and coaches safer working practice that empowers them to work confidently with children and deliver the best possible football experience.
